Community

Being Responsibly Lead means developing our business, and supporting community development, with a focus on sustainable practices. Our goal is to have a positive impact on the communities in which we operate.

Rosslyn Hill Mining’s operations cover an extensive geographical area so an important aspect of sustainability is maintaining regular, open communication and engagement with all stakeholders along our transport route and mine site.

Wiluna Community

In Wiluna we play a leading role in developing and supporting projects that build community capacity, have strong community support and make positive, long-term contributions to broad sections of the community.

Partnerships

Remote communities, such as Wiluna, often have unique and complex social issues that require a collaborative community response.   Rosslyn Hill works in partnership with many different agencies, government departments and community groups and contributes both funds and in-kind support to seek sustainable solutions.

We take a leading role in the Wiluna Regional Partnerships Agreement (WRPA) Steering Committee and Industry Partners Group, supporting activities such as developing community governance, an employment attitudinal survey, and driving projects aimed at developing local employment opportunities.

Governance

Rosslyn Hill Mining receives many requests for support from the community in the form of funding or in-kind investment.  Broadly speaking, our community investment focus is directed to activities that benefit the wider community, take a long-term perspective and can be linked to building the capacity of community members to take up employment opportunities.

Wiluna Regional Partnership Agreement

The Wiluna Regional Partnership Agreement (Wiluna RPA) aims to improve the socioeconomic wellbeing of Indigenous Australians by expanding access to employment and business development opportunities available in mining regions.

The Wiluna RPA is the result of a partnership between the Australian Government and the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA) which commenced in 2005 and is set out in a Memorandum Of Understanding dated 27 May 2009. It involves government, Indigenous people, businesses and communities.

Wiluna RPA Purpose

The purpose of the Wiluna RPA is to increase the economic participation of Indigenous people through targeted employment and business development opportunities at the local level, with a particular focus on Indigenous participation in minerals industry and government supply chains. The partnership is also aimed at present and future development of mineral resources, and the establishment of vibrant, diversified and sustainable regional economies.

The following principles underpin the Wiluna RPA:

  • Sustainable development for the Martu community in Wiluna to ensure their social and economic wellbeing both in the present and the future

  • Partnership between the Aboriginal community, mining industry and all levels of government

  • Collaboration and coordination

  • Joint commitment to social and economic development of the Aboriginal communities with which the parties engage.
